Biography

Edgardo Felipe Valerio Donato, known as Edgardo Donato, was born on April 14, 1897, in Buenos Aires, Argentina. Raised in Montevideo, Uruguay, he received musical training and became a violinist and composer. Donato's breakthrough came with the composition of "A media luz" in 1924, which later gained international recognition when it was adapted into "Tell Me Marianne" and reached Number 1 on the British sheet music charts in June 1947. Throughout his career, Donato composed numerous tangos, including "Adónde vas, tan regalón", "Amores viejos", and "Beba". He also collaborated with other composers such as Osvaldo Donato and Carlos Warren. Donato's work has been featured on various albums, including 25 Grande Éxitos (2010) and Yo Te Amo (1979). He passed away on February 15, 1963.
