Biography

Rosa Rodríguez Quiroga de Capiello, better known as Rosita Quiroga, born on January 16, 1896, in Buenos Aires, Argentina, was a singer known for her contributions to tango music. Raised in the barrio of La Boca, she began her career as an arrabalera singer, blending lunfardo with her singing style. Quiroga's first recording, "Siempre criolla", was released in 1923. In 1926, Quiroga and Victor Records pioneered electric recordings in Argentina. She performed at the Empire Theatre from 1930 to 1931 and was the first woman to sing tangos on LOX Radio Cultura. Her career saw a resurgence in the 1950s with notable performances and collaborations, including with Mercedes Simone and Oscar Ugarte. Quiroga's political views led to her exile in Paraguay in 1955. She died on October 16, 1984.
