Biography

Hailing from Portland, Oregon, Quarterflash has the unique distinction of having a female singer who is also a saxophonist. Formed in 1980 on the initiative of Rindy Ross and her husband, guitarist Marv Ross, Quarterflash rose to fame the following year with their FM rock and new wave-influenced pop rock style, represented by the single "Harden My Heart". The song exploded on local radio before the band signed with Geffen Records, making it a hit. After the United States, France is the country where "Harden My Heart" is most popular. Despite the success of the 1981 album Quarterflash, the band's success waned after three further albums, until they split up in 1991. The couple Rindy Ross and Marv Ross use the Quarterflash name again for the albums Goodbye Uncle Buzz (2008) and Love Is a Road (2013).
