Catherine Tift Merritt, born Januaryâ¯8â¯1975 in Houston, Texas, is an American singerâsongwriter and multiâinstrumentalist. She studied creative writing at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill while performing with the Carbines, releasing the 7âinch single "Jukejoint Girl" and the EP The Two Dollar Pistols with Tift Merritt in 1999 on Yep Roc. Tift Merrittâs debut album Bramble Rose (2002) earned topâten reviews, and her sophomore release Tambourine (2004) was nominated for a Grammy for Best Country Album. Subsequent albums-Another Country (2008), Buckingham Solo (2009), Seeâ¯Youâ¯onâ¯theâ¯Moon (2010), Traveling Alone (2012), and Night with Simone Dinnerstein (2013)-followed. She released Stitch of the World in 2017 and returned in 2026 with Sugar.
