Sol Invictus, a British neofolk band from London, was formed in 1987 by Tony Wakeford. The group initially blended electronic experimentation with folk guitars before evolving into a neo-classical sound that significantly influenced neofolk music. Their name was derived from the Roman cult of Sol Invictus. Sol Invictus released their debut mini-LP Against the Modern World in 1988, and gained recognition with the album Sol Veritas Lux (1990), which featured collaborations with Ian Read and Douglas Pearce. In 1992, they released King & Queen, marking a shift towards traditional instruments. The band continued to release albums including Lex Thrones (2002), Once Upon a Time (2014), and Necropolis (2018).
