Biography

Dudley George Simpson was an Australian composer and conductor born on October 4, 1922 in Malvern East, Australia. He studied orchestration at the Melbourne Conservatorium of Music after learning piano as a child. Simpson became assistant, conductor, pianist, and musical director for the Borovansky Ballet Company and forerunner to the Australian Ballet. He later moved to the UK and became Principal Conductor of the Royal Opera House orchestra for three years. Simpson composed incidental music for Doctor Who during the 1960s and 1970s, contributing to over 300 episodes. His compositions also included theme songs for The Tomorrow People (1973) and Blake's 7 (1978). He died on November 4, 2017 in Sydney, Australia at the age of 95.
