Downtown Boys, an American punk rock band formed in 2011 in Providence, Rhode Island, was founded when Joey La Neve DeFrancesco met vocalist Victoria Ruiz while working at a hotel. Their first significant release was a 7" single on Sister Polygon Records in 2014. The band gained critical acclaim with their second LP Full Communism (2015), which featured the lead single "Monstro" and drew attention from outlets like Pitchfork and Stereogum. They performed on Democracy Now! and were featured in Rolling Stone, who dubbed them "America's Most Exciting Punk Band." In 2017, Downtown Boys released their third LP Cost of Living on Sub Pop Records and composed the original music for the film Miss Marx, winning the David di Donatello award for Best Music. The band has been involved in advocacy efforts, including campaigns around streaming royalties and compensation at festivals like SXSW. In 2026, they released their fourth full-length, Public Luxury.
