Biography

Domna Samiou was a Greek singer and researcher of traditional music born in 1928. She received musical training from Simon Karas at the Association for the Dissemination of National Music. Samiou was an employee of the National Radio Foundation from 1954 to 1971. In 1971, she performed at venues including the Rodeo club and the Bach Festival in London. She collaborated with Columbia Records in 1974 and released several albums. Samiou produced the television series Musical Journey in 1976 and founded the Domna Samiou Greek Folk Music Association in 1981. Albums included A Journey to Greece with Domna Samiou (1972) and The Perperouna and Other Traditional Songs for Children (1980). Samiou died in 2012.
