Biography

Die Westfälischen Nachtigallen, founded in 1948 by Dietmar Hahn in Ahlen, Germany, initially consisted of approximately 50 young female singers aged between eight and 18. The group began their musical journey with their first recording session at the Ahlener Rathaus in 1951. In 1963, they made their television debut as Westfälische Nachtigallen and won the International Children's and Youth Choir Competition against 102 other choirs. The choir collaborated with notable artists such as Heino, Marianne & Michael, and Bill Ramsey, and released numerous albums including Sing ein Lied mit Onkel Bill (1965) and Happy Winter Mit Den Westfälischen Nachtigallen (1970). They embarked on several tours across Germany and celebrated their 50th anniversary in 1998. After the resignation of Sebastian Wewer due to health reasons in 2015, the choir was disbanded.
