Biography

Rundfunk-Jugendchor Wernigerode, a mixed choir from students of the Landesgymnasium für Musik in Wernigerode, Germany, was founded on May 16, 1951. The ensemble began under Friedrich Krell and initially performed as part of the Gerhart Hauptmann-Oberschule Wernigerode. Their first radio production took place from October 29 to 30, 1952. The choir gained recognition through numerous recordings and performances, including appearances on television and radio. They participated in international festivals such as the Béla-Bartók Festivals in Debrecen, Hungary, and won multiple awards at various choral competitions. Notable albums include Tausend Sterne sind ein Dom (2000). The choir has also performed at significant events like the Festsitzung of Bundestag and Bundesrat for the Tag der Deutschen Einheit in 1992.
