Emery Williams, Jr., known professionally as Detroit Junior, born on October 26, 1931, in Haynes, Arkansas, was an American blues pianist, vocalist, and songwriter. He began his musical journey playing organ and later piano in local clubs while living with his grandmother in Flint, Michigan. His first single, "Money Tree", was released in 1960 under the name Detroit Junior for the label Bea & Baby. This marked the beginning of a prolific career that saw him release several singles and albums, including his first full-length album, Chicago Urban Blues (1972) on Blues on Blues and Living Chicago Blues Volume 6 (1980). Throughout his career, Detroit Junior collaborated with notable musicians such as Howlin' Wolf, Eddie Boyd, Jimmy Reed, and Eddie Taylor. He was a regular performer at Chicago's B.L.U.E.S. and Kingston Mines clubs until his death on August 9, 2005. His songs "So Unhappy" and "Call My Job" were covered by artists like Koko Taylor and Albert King.
