Scott Monteith, known professionally as Deadbeat, was born in Kitchener, Ontario, Canada, and developed an early interest in electronic music while living in Montreal. After relocating to Berlin in 2006, he collaborated with Steve Beaupré in the duo Crackhaus and performed at Mutek and Sonar. Subsequent albums include Journeyman's Annual (2007), Roots and Wire (2008), Drawn and Quartered (2011), Eight (2012), Walls and Dimensions (2015), and KüblerâRoss Soliloquies (2023). His 2019 project Trinity Thirty with Fatima Camara earned critical attention for its faithful reinterpretation of Cowboy Junkiesâ The Trinity Session. In 2026, Deadbeat released Kansai Botanicals, continuing his exploration of politically themed electronica.
