DD Smash was a New Zealand pop/rock band formed in 1980 by Dave Dobbyn after the breakup of Th' Dudes. The group briefly performed under the name Dave Dobbynâs Divers before drummer Peter Warren suggested the name DD Smash. By late 1981, they signed a recording deal and released their debut album Cool Bananas in 1982, which debuted at Number 1 in New Zealand and earned triple gold certification. Their subsequent albums included Live: Deep in the Heart of Taxes (1983) and The Optimist (1984). Notable songs from their discography include "Repetition" and "The Devil You Know". DD Smash disbanded during the mid-1980s. In 2015, Recorded Music NZ honored Cool Bananas as the first album by a New Zealand artist to debut at Number 1 on the album chart.
