Biography

Dayna Kurtz is an American singer-songwriter whose music blends jazz, folk, pop, and blues. She began her career performing in the independent circuit in the early 1990s and released her debut album in 2002, Postcards from Downtown, which features the string quartet ETHEL. In 2004, she recorded a duet with Norah Jones of Duke Ellington’s “I Got It Bad and That Ain’t Good” on her album Beautiful Yesterday. Kurtz has toured with artists such as Elvis Costello, Richard Thompson, Mavis Staples, Dr. John, B.B. King, Richie Havens, Rufus Wainwright, Keren Ann, Chris Whitley, and The Blind Boys of Alabama. She was named Female Songwriter of the Year in 1997 by the National Academy of Songwriters. Among her albums are Another Black Feather (2006) and For the Love of Hazel: Songs for Hazel Dickens (2010).
