Dax Wentworth Pierson (1970â2024) was an American experimental multi-instrumentalist and producer from Oakland. He worked at Amoeba Music for ten years and belonged to the groups Subtle and 13 & God. His solo discography began with the album Intro To (2002). In 2005, Pierson was paralyzed from the chest down following a tour van accident while traveling with Subtle. He subsequently received an $18.3 million legal settlement from the Ford Motor Company. Pierson resumed solo recording with Pablo Feldman Sun Riley (2006) and the live album Live in Oakland (2019). In 2021, he released the studio album Nerve Bumps (A Queer Divine Dissatisfaction) on Ratskin Records. The single âFor the Angelsâ appeared on a compilation for The Wire magazine in April 2021. Pierson collaborated with artists including Anticon, Jel, and Themselves. He died in Oakland, California on December 30, 2024.
