The Washington Projects, a US hip-hop and R&B band from the United States of America, was formed in the mid-1990s by siblings Jekob and Rachel Washington. Initially known as Souljahz with their older brother Josh, they gained significant attention after appearing on MTV's It's Your Show and signed a seven-year record deal with Warner Bros. Records. In 2002, their debut album The Fault is History was released, winning two Dove Awards: Urban Album of the Year for The Fault is History and Rap/Hip Hop Recorded Song for "All Around the World". After Josh left the group, Jekob and Rachel rebranded as The Washington Projects. Under this new name, they released their debut album Commanders of the Resistance in November 2007 on The Black and White Label Group.
