Davy Knowles, born April 30, 1987, in Port St. Mary, Isle of Man, is a blues guitarist and singer who started playing guitar at age 11 after hearing "Sultans of Swing" by Dire Straits. He formed the blues-rock band Back Door Slam with schoolmates in 2003/2004. The band released their debut album Roll Away in 2007, which peaked at number 7 on the Blues Billboard Chart. After touring extensively and gaining exposure at festivals like South by Southwest and Lollapalooza, Back Door Slam announced their disbandment in early 2009. Knowles then embarked on a solo career, releasing his first album Coming Up for Air under the name Davy Knowles and Back Door Slam in June 2009. This album reached number 2 on the Billboard Blues Albums Chart. He released several solo albums, including The Outsider (2014) and Three Miles From Avalon (2016).
