David Gilmore (born February 5, 1964) was an American jazz and jazz fusion guitarist from Cambridge, Massachusetts. Gilmore studied at New York University with Joe Lovano and Jim McNeely before beginning his professional career in 1987 with the M-Base Collective and Ronald Shannon Jackson. In the 1990s, he was a member of the fusion group Lost Tribe and joined Wayne Shorterâs band in 1995. Gilmore released his debut album as a leader, Ritualism, in 2000, featuring his brother Marque Gilmore. In 2006, he produced and served as the primary composer for Unified Presence, collaborating with Christian McBride, Jeff "Tain" Watts, and Ravi Coltrane. His subsequent leader recordings included Numerology: Live at Jazz Standard (2012), Energies of Change (2015), Transitions (2017), and From Here to Here (2020). Gilmore also performed as a sideman for Steve Coleman, Don Byron, and Cassandra Wilson.
