Biography

David Chesworth, born in 1958 in Stoke-on-Trent, England, is a composer and interdisciplinary artist. Based in Melbourne, Australia, Chesworth coordinated the Clifton Hill Community Music Centre in Melbourne early in his career. His first notable releases included solo albums such as Industry & Leisure (1982) and collaborations with post-punk groups Essendon Airport and Whadya Want?. Through Innocent Records, he released 50 Synthesizer Greats (1979) and Layer On Layer (1981). Chesworth's work spans music, sound art, video, installation, and performance. He has collaborated extensively with artist Sonia Leber on projects like Zaum Tractor, featured at the 56th Venice Biennale in 2015. His compositions have been performed at prestigious festivals, including Ars Electronica and BAM's Next Wave Festival. Chesworth has also served as the artistic director of David Chesworth Ensemble, which has released albums such as Exotica Suite (1992).
