Biography

David Wayne Bargeron was an American trombonist and tuba player. He was the lead trombonist with Clark Terry's Big Band and played bass trombone and tuba with Doc Severinsen's Band from 1968 to 1970. In 1970, Bargeron joined Blood, Sweat & Tears after Jerry Hyman’s departure, contributing a notable jazz-rock tuba solo on "And When I Die/One Room Country Shack" from the album Live and Improvised, and recorded several albums with the group. He became a sought-after freelance musician, performing and recording with Billy Joel, Paul Simon, Mick Jagger, James Taylor, Eric Clapton, David Sanborn, Carla Bley, and Pat Metheny, among others. He was also a member of ensembles including the Gil Evans Orchestra, Jaco Pastorius's Word of Mouth Band, Tuba Tuba, and Howard Johnson's Gravity. Bargeron died on January 18, 2025, at the age of 82.
