Dave Askren, born in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, is an American jazz guitarist and educator. He started playing clarinet and saxophone before switching to guitar at fourteen. Askren attended Berklee College of Music from 1976 to 1980 and taught there during the 1980s while performing in Boston. Notable collaborations include working with Delfeayo Marsalis, Antonio Hart, Kevin Eubanks, and Bob Moses. In the 1990s, he moved to Los Angeles and worked as a sideman for La Toya Jackson and Marilyn McCoo. His discography includes Re: Bill Evans (2002), Rhubumba (2004), Some Other Things (2005), and Trio Nuevo+ (2008).
