Daniel Cancio Toro was an Argentine folk singer and composer born on January 3, 1941, in Salta. He began his professional journey at age seventeen, co-writing âPara ir a buscarteâ with Ariel Petrocelli. After performing with ensembles such as Los Nombradores, he launched a solo career in 1966. Toro achieved a major breakthrough at the 1967 Festival de CosquÃn, where he received the Premio Consagración and released the debut album El nombrador. Throughout the 1970s, he published successful albums such as Canciones para mi pueblo. During the Argentine dictatorship between 1976 and 1983, his music was banned, leading him to release work under the pseudonym Casimiro Cobos. In 1979, he was diagnosed with throat cancer and lost his voice for several years before returning to the stage in 1985. His compositions include the classics âZamba para olvidarteâ and âEl Cristo Americanoâ. Toro died on May 25, 2023, in Salta.
