Biography

Miguel Aceves Mejía was born on November 15, 1915, in Chihuahua, Mexico. After his father's death when he was four, he worked as a shoeshiner and newspaper vendor. His breakthrough came when he won a singing contest at the Ford Motor Company, leading to a position at radio station XEB El Buen Tono where he would meet his future bandmates in Los Porteños. The band performed in Monterrey and Los Angeles and recorded an album. After the band split, he became a bolero singer and recorded albums of rumbas and guarachas. In 1940, Aceves Mejía made his film debut in Rancho Alegre, marking the start of a prolific acting career alongside his musical endeavors. He gained popularity through his bolero and ranchera music, releasing over 2,000 songs throughout his career. Notable albums include 12 Exitos Rancheros (1996) and La Malaguena (2000). Aceves Mejía passed away on November 6, 2006, in Mexico City.
