Daniel Casimir, born around 1990 in London, is an English jazz musician known for his double bass playing and composition. He started playing bass in a steel band at age 11 and transitioned to electric bass by 15 after discovering Jaco Pastorius' recordings. From 2008 to 2012, Casimir studied at the Birmingham Conservatoire. Casimir released his debut EP Escapee in 2017 with Moses Boyd, Joe Armon-Jones, and Shirley Tetteh. His critically acclaimed debut album Boxed In was released in 2021, featuring contributions from Nubya Garcia, Moses Boyd, Rosie Turton, Al Macsween, and James Copus. He won the Young Jazz Musician Award from the Musiciansâ Company in 2016 and was named Instrumentalist of the Year at the Jazz FM Awards in 2021. His album Boxed In received a Parliamentary Jazz Award for Best Album in 2022
