Biography
Curley James Weaver, born on March 25, 1906, in Covington, Georgia, was an American blues musician and guitarist. Weaver, who was also known as Slim Gordon, learned to play from his mother, guitarist and pianist, Savannah "Dip" Shepard Weaver, and moved to Atlanta in 1925. Weaver began performing locally, releasing several records with various labels throughout the 1920s and 1930s, including collaborations with Blind Willie McTell and groups like The Georgia Browns and The Georgia Cotton Pickers. He recorded until 1949 before working for a railroad company. Notable singles include "It's the Best Stuff Yet / Dirty Deal Blues" (1929) and "Oh Lawdy Mama / Fried Pie Blues" (1936). Weaver died on September 20, 1962, at age 56.
