Biography

A hip-hop solo artist and member of the Dungeon Family, Cool Breeze helped popularize the "dirty south" school of southern hip-hop during the late-1990s. He was born as "Frederick Bell" on August 12, 1971, and grew up in the Atlanta suburb of East Point. A childhood friend of Goodie Mob member Big Gipp, he co-wrote Goodie Mob's Top 10 single, "Dirty South," and appeared on the track in 1996. Goodie Mob returned the favor by joining Cool Breeze on his own song, "Watch for the Hook," which topped the Hot Rap Songs chart in February 1999. Also featuring appearances by fellow Dungeon Family members Outkast and Witchdoctor, "Watch for the Hook" was quickly followed by Cool Breeze's debut album, East Point's Greatest Hit, which arrived in March 1999. Two years later, Breeze partnered with two rappers from the rap group Sniper Unit to form the Calhouns, whose debut album, Made in the Dirty South, was released in 2002.
