Clive Robert Bertram Dunn, born Robert Bertram Dunn on January 9, 1920 in Brixton, south London, is an English actor and singer. He began his acting career in 1935 and had a few small film roles in the 1930s. His music career started with the release of "Grandad" in 1970, which became a notable hit single. The song reached Number 1 on the UK Singles Chart on Dunn's 51st birthday in January 1971 and was accompanied by a children's choir. He performed "Grandad" four times on Top of the Pops. Following this success, he released several other singles but did not achieve the same chart success again. His only album, Permission to Sing Sir, was released around 1970. Dunn also had a successful acting career and is best known for his role as Lance Corporal Jones in the BBC sitcom Dad's Army. He played the character from 1968 to 1977, appearing in all nine series and 80 episodes. After Dad's Army ended, Dunn capitalized on his reputation for playing elderly character roles by starring as Charlie Quick in the slapstick children's TV series Grandad, which aired from 1979 to 1984. He also appeared in various other television shows and films throughout his career. Dunn passed away on November 6, 2012.
