Biography
Lieutenant Pigeon were an English novelty musical group popular in the early 1970s, originating in Coventry. Lieutenant Pigeon, a spin-off from experimental music band Stavely Makepeace, was fronted by Rob Woodward and managed by him and drummer Nigel Fletcher. The group achieved two UK hits, "Mouldy Old Dough" in 1972 and "Desperate Dan" in 1973, with their sound characterized by heavy honky-tonk-style piano played by Rob's mother, Hilda. They scored another hit in Australia in 1974 with "I'll Take You Home Again, Kathleen". The band underwent several line-up changes, with Steven Johnson being the only original member by the late 1980s. The Pigeon name remains active, with former members working on various projects. Stavely Makepeace, the band's precursor, was formed in 1969 and featured a unique, eccentric pop sound.
