Biography

Christopher Hollyday, born January 3, 1970 in New Haven, Connecticut, is an American jazz saxophonist. He began performing in clubs at age 14 and initially released an album on his own Jazzbeat label, drawing stylistic influences from Charlie Parker and Jackie McLean. In 1988, Hollyday performed with his own group at the Village Vanguard in New York City and toured with Maynard Ferguson's Big Band in 1989. He gained recognition as one of the "Young Lions" of the late 1980s, releasing four albums between 1989 and 1992 for RCA Novus. His debut album Christopher Hollyday featured accompaniment from Wallace Roney, Cedar Walton, David Williams, and Billy Higgins. After his contract with RCA Novus was not renewed in 1992, Hollyday transitioned to teaching, initially at Orange Glen High School in Escondido before moving to Valley Center High School in California.
