Biography

Christof Thewes, born on January 14, 1964, in Quierschied, Germany, is a German composer and trombonist. He began playing the trombone in 1976 and has been a freelance musician since 1988. Thewes leads various ensembles and music projects across modern jazz, free improvisation, new music, experimental rock, funk, and pop. In 1991, he co-founded the Duo Undertone with Martin "Schmiddi" Schmidt. He has performed at festivals including Jazz d’Or Strasbourg and the International Jazz Festival St. Ingbert. Thewes has collaborated with musicians such as Albert Mangelsdorff and Georg Ruby, and has been part of ensembles like Die Enttäuschung and Globe Unity Orchestra. His notable albums include Modest Mussorgsky - Bilder einer Ausstellung (2006) and Trombonealone (2010). Thewes has also composed for radio, film, and chamber orchestras. He received the media prize of the city of Saarbrücken in 1992 and the Jazz Prize of the City of Worms in 2007.
