Chris Beier, born on May 5, 1953, in Trier, Germany, is a German pianist and composer. He received classical piano training early and became interested in jazz and blues. He studied musicology, American studies, and sociology at the University of Regensburg. During the 1970s, he worked with notable musicians such as Toto Blanke, Albert Mangelsdorff, and Aladár Pege. He served as the musical director at the Staatstheater Nürnberg from 1979 to 1985. Beier has released several albums, including Giant Steps - Piano Solo (1980), Roots (1989), Piano Works VIII: Aeolian Green (2008), and Scarborough Variations Piano Works XI (2018). He composed the work "Angel Memory" and "Ragas & Sagas," which was a tribute to John Coltrane. His career took a significant turn in 2001 when he developed focal dystonia, leading him to retire from active concert life.
