Biography

Chloé Sainte-Marie, born Marie-Aline Joyal in 1962 in Saint-Eugène-de-Grantham, Quebec, is a Canadian singer and actress. She gained prominence in the 1980s through her work with filmmaker Gilles Carle, starring in La Guêpe (1986) and receiving the Prix d’interprétation féminine at the Festival du film d’aventure de Pau. Her musical career began with the album L’emploi de mon temps in 1993. In 2002, her album Je marche à toi won the Félix for Album of the Year – Folk Contemporary at the ADISQ 2003. Sainte-Marie also founded the Fondation Maison Gilles-Carle to support caregivers, earning her recognition such as being named Member of the Order of Canada in 2024.
