Biography

Chastity Brown, born June 1, 1982 in Union City, Tennessee, is an American singer-songwriter and musician. She began playing saxophone and drums in church before writing and singing her own songs. Her first performance was in Knoxville, Tennessee, followed by a move to Minneapolis in 2006. Brown self-released her debut album Do the Best You Can in 2007, followed by Sankofa in 2009, both receiving critical acclaim. She released High Noon Teeth in 2010. In October 2011, she was discovered by Fred Cannon, SVP of BMI, at the Bitter End and introduced to Rose Drake, who signed her to Creative and Dreams Music Network. Brown was named Minneapolis' Best Folk Artist in 2012 and received nods from NPR and other publications. Her single "After You" landed on 89.3 The Current's Top 89 Songs of 2012 and was featured in the BBC & HBO television movie Mary & Martha. Chastity Brown signed with Red House Records in July 2016.
