Biography

During his long career, the Argentinian rock musician Charly Garcia has become one of his country's best known and most successful artists. Born into a wealthy family in Buenos Aires on October 23, 1951, he was encouraged by his parents to pursue and develop his musical talent from a young age. Having developed perfect pitch and good keyboard skills he was accepted into the Thibaud Piazzini Conservatory and at the age of 12 graduated as a music professor. During his early teens, he discovered The Beatles and began to experiment with rock music, forming the band Sui Generis. During this early period, a variety of musical influences can be detected in Charly Garcia's work including folk, classical, rock, and psychedelia. He then went on to be involved in the prog-rock band La Máquina de Hacer Pájaros and the legendary folk-rock supergroup PorSuiGieco, as well as Serú Girán, with whom he released five studio albums between 1978 and 1992. Since the 1980s, Charly Garcia has concentrated on solo projects and has generated a prodigious output of material, recording almost 30 albums in his own name, including the acclaimed Yendo de la Cama al Living (1982), Clics Modernos (1983), Piano Bar (1984), and Influencia (2002). After a battle with alcohol and drug abuse during the early part of the 21st century, Charly Garcia recovered and rebuilt his career through albums like Kill Gil (2010), Random (2017), and La Lógica del Escorpión (2024).
