Charles Leonard Kunz, also known as Charlie Kunz, born on August 18, 1896, in Allentown, Pennsylvania, was an American-born pianist and band leader who made his debut at age six. During World War I, he led a resident band while working in a munitions factory. In 1922, Kunz moved to the United Kingdom as part of a small dance band. His breakthrough came in 1934 with his debut solo performance at the Holborn Empire in London. This led to numerous appearances in variety theatres across Britain and Europe. His signature tune was "Clap Hands, Here Comes Charlie", and his closing theme was "Pink Elephants". He became one of the highest-paid pianists worldwide. Notable collaborations included working with vocalists Vera Lynn and Dorothy Squires during the 1930s. He passed away on March 16, 1958.
