Biography

Charlie, a British rock band formed in 1971 by singer/songwriter Terry Thomas, were first active from the mid-1970s to 1986. The group released their debut single "I Need Your Love" on Decca Records in 1973 and their first album Fantasy Girls in January 1976. In 1977, Charlie signed with Arista Records and released the album No Second Chance, which included their first chart entry "Turning To You", peaking at Number 96 in the US. The band achieved minor hits in the US with songs like "She Loves to Be In Love" (1978), which peaked at Number 54, and "Killer Cut" (1979), reaching Number 60. Their most successful single was "It's Inevitable", released in 1983, which peaked at Number 38 on the US charts. Despite their chart success, Charlie never charted in the UK. In 1986, Terry Thomas resurrected the band identity to release In Pursuit of Romance, working essentially as a solo artist with contributions from session musicians. After a long hiatus, Charlie released new material in 2009 with the album Kitchens Of Distinction. The final lineup included Terry Thomas, Martin Smith, Julian Colbeck, Andy Bloom, Elliot Thomas, Charlie Barratt, and Steve Alexander. Drummer Steve Gadd passed away on March 27, 2013, after a year-long battle with cancer. The band released their final album, Elysium, in 2015.
