Biography

Cause & Effect were formed in Sacramento, California in 1990 by founding members Rob Rowe (vocalist/guitarist) and the late Sean Rowley (vocalist/keyboardist). The duo, inspired by the burgeoning synth-pop and new wave scenes of the 1980s, set out to create music that combined melodic pop sensibilities with the lush, electronic soundscapes characteristic of the genre. Their chemistry and shared musical vision quickly led to the creation of their distinctive sound. In 1990, Cause & Effect released their self-titled debut album, which included the hit single "What Do You See?" The song gained significant airplay and climbed the Billboard Dance/Club Play charts, establishing the group as a notable act in the synth-pop scene. The success of their debut album led to a contract with BMG, and in 1992, they re-released the album under the title Another Minute, which included additional tracks and remixes. Tragedy struck in 1992 when Sean Rowley passed away suddenly due to complications from asthma. Despite this devastating loss, Rob Rowe decided to continue the group, bringing on Keith Milo to fill the void left by Rowley's passing. A talented keyboardist and programmer, he helped maintain the group’s signature sound and played a crucial role in their continued success. With Keith Milo on board, Cause & Effect released their second album, Trip, in 1994. The album was well-received, featuring the singles "It's Over Now" and "Inside Out," which further solidified their presence in the electronic music scene. The band continued to evolve their sound, incorporating more modern electronic elements while staying true to their synth-pop roots. Over the years, Cause & Effect released several more albums, including Innermost Station (1997) and Artificial Construct (2011), showcasing their ability to adapt to changing musical landscapes while retaining their unique identity.
