Biography

Catherine Elisabeth Britt is an Australian country music artist born on December 31, 1984, in Newcastle. Inspired by Dolly Parton and Loretta Lynn, she began her professional career at age 14 by releasing the EP In the Pines. In 2001, she independently released her debut studio album, Dusty Smiles and Heartbreak Cures, which reached number 18 on the ARIA Country Chart and earned an ARIA nomination. Britt moved to Nashville in 2004 and signed with RCA Nashville, where her US debut single, “The Upside of Being Down”, reached number 36 on the Billboard Hot Country Songs chart. In 2005, she collaborated with Elton John on the duet “Where We Both Say Goodbye”. Britt has won four Golden Guitar trophies, including Female Artist of the Year for “What I Did Last Night” in 2009. In 2012, she co-founded the group The Hillbilly Killers. Following a diagnosis of breast cancer in 2015, she released the album Boneshaker and won her fourth Golden Guitar for Female Artist of the Year.
