Biography
Douglas Wesley Ashdown is an Australian rock and folk singer-songwriter born on 29 July 1942 in Adelaide. At age 17, he traveled to England to perform in a rock band before returning to Adelaide in 1961 to join the Bowmen. He released his debut studio album, This Is Doug Ashdown (1965), and issued the single âSomething Strangeâ (1968). In 1970, he signed with the label Sweet Peach and released âThe Saddest Song of Allâ (1970), which reached number 46 on the Kent Music Report. That same year, he released the double album The Age of Mouse (1970). Ashdown achieved significant success with the track âWinter in Americaâ (1976), which reached number 3 in Brisbane and number 14 in Melbourne. His subsequent recordings include the studio albums Trees (1977) and The World for the Right Kind of Man (1983). Ashdown co-wrote several original songs for the 1995 film Billy's Holiday.
