Lawrence Reynolds, born on July 13, 1944, in St. Stephens, Alabama, is an American country singer known for his blend of country and folk music. His career took off with the release of his hit single "Jesus Is a Soul Man" in 1969, which reached number 28 on the US Billboard Hot 100 chart and number 3 on the US Country Singles chart. The song, co-written by Jack D Cardwell, marked Reynolds' breakthrough moment. Following this success, he released an album titled Jesus Is a Soul Man in 1970, which peaked at number 45 on the U.S. Country Albums chart. Throughout his career, Reynolds remained active in the country music scene, performing at various venues and festivals. His music often reflected his Southern roots and Christian faith. Reynolds passed away from coronary artery disease on August 15, 2000, and was buried at Three Forks Baptist Church in Bigbee, Alabama. In 2008, Lawrence Reynoldsâs album Jesus Is a Soul Man was re-released digitally, featuring his original recordings from 1969.
