Casey Jones & The Governors are a British rock group formed in 1963. Brian Cassar, born on March 21, 1936, in Newcastle upon Tyne, initially worked as a cook before founding the band Cass and The Cassanovas in 1959. This group transitioned from folk to beat music and eventually evolved into The Big Three after Cassar left. Cassar then adopted the stage name Casey Jones and formed The Engineers, which included musicians like Eric Clapton and Tom McGuinness. After a hiatus due to his acting career, Cassar reassembled a new quintet known as Casey Jones & The Governors. The band quickly gained a reputation for their energetic performances, touring extensively in England and Germany, and achieving notable success at the Star-Club in Hamburg. Their most famous track, "Donât Ha Ha", was recorded in Munich in October 1964 and is a cover of Huey "Piano" Smith's "Donât You Just Know It". The band's career spanned only a year with recordings made in Munich and Frankfurt before disbanding in 1967. They later changed their name to Gaslight Union and signed with Electrola, but disbanded by 1968. Casey Jones continued working as a DJ and organizer of concerts until his death on December 25, 2022.
