Carol Fredette, born April 15, 1940, in New York City, was an American jazz musician and singer from a musical family. After attending Florida State University, she moved to New York City to pursue a career as a jazz singer following her exposure to the Stan Kenton Orchestra. Fredette performed with big bands led by Sal Salvador, Larry Elgart, and Neal Hefti, touring extensively for two decades. In 1978, she settled in New York and collaborated with notable musicians such as Steve Kuhn and Dave Frishberg. Her notable albums include collaborations with David Matthews & New Satelite, And Then It Happened (1989), and a duo album with Steve Kuhn, In the Shadows (1994), which featured standards like "They Say It's Wonderful", "Jitterbug Waltz", and "Yesterday's Gardenias". Fredette passed away on January 24, 2021.
