Biography

Carl Espen Thorbjørnsen (born on July 15, 1982), is a Norwegian singer-songwriter, who is mostly known for representing Norway in the Eurovision Song Contest 2014 in Copenhagen. After reaching the finals of the Melodi Grand Prix 2014 with the Josefin Winther-penned "Silent Storm," Espen was chosen to represent Norway at the Eurovision Song Contest 2014. After a captivating performance, he lost to eventual winner Conchita Wurst, finishing in 8th place with 88 points. Even though he didn’t win the competition, "Silent Storm" made waves in the charts throughout Europe, and obtained platinum certification in his home country after selling more than 10,000 copies. That same year, Espen released the follow-up single “Holding On,” an emotional ballad featuring larger-than-life drums and lush orchestral arrangements that ultimately failed to chart.
