Biography

Canzoniere del Lazio was a folk group from Rome, Italy, formed in 1972. The band initially comprised Piero Brega, Francesco Giannattasio, Sara Modigliani, and Carlo Siliotto, who aimed to explore traditional folk music through extensive research and documentation of proletarian and peasant material. Their debut album, Quando nascesti tune, released in 1973, showcased their commitment to authentic folk styles. The group's second album, Lassa stà la me creatura (1974), introduced elements of rock and jazz, furthering their experimental approach. In 1976, they released Spirito bono, which featured a guitar solo by Peter Kaukonen of Jefferson Airplane. Canzoniere del Lazio disbanded in 1978. Their work was recognized posthumously when the Italian edition of Rolling Stone included "Tarantellone" in its top 10 list of 10 Best Italian Prog Suites in 2020.
