Biography
Câmbio Negro is a Brazilian rap group formed in 1990 by vocalist X, DJ Jamaika (Jefferson Alves), and DJ Chocolaty. The group broke through with its debut album, Sub-Raça (1993), followed by Diário de um Feto (1995), which sold 2,000 copies in approximately two weeks. Their third album, Câmbio Negro (1998), earned the group two MTV Video Music Brasil Awards in 1999 for Best Rap Group and Best Editing for the music video "CÃrculo Vicioso." After X left the group in 2000, Câmbio Negro disbanded before reuniting in 2015 to record the live album and DVD Câmbio Negro Ao Vivo. In 2020, X announced the band's return. Subsequent releases include "Fogo No Canavial" (2022) and "Se Prepare Pra Morrer" (2023).
