Cécile Verny, born in 1969 in Abidjan, Ivory Coast, is a French jazz singer who moved to France at age twelve. She formed the Cécile Verny Quartet in Strasbourg in 1987. She relocated to Freiburg im Breisgau, Germany, two years later, where she developed her musical career with her quartet and as a singer with other groups. Her work has been recognized with awards, such as the Grand Prix du Jury at Jazz à Juan-les-Pins in 2003 and an honorable mention from the German Music Critics Award for The Bitter and The Sweet (2006). Verny's solo career includes notable albums such as OAZOO (1993) and European Songbook (2005), which features jazz standards by European composers, and Memory Lane (2014). She has collaborated with various artists, including the WDR Big Band on Celebrating Billie Holiday (2008) and Mein Liedgut (2019) with Johannes Maikranz.
