BVSMP were an American hip-hop trio formed in 1987 by Calvin Williams, Frederick Eugene Byrd, and Percy Nathan Rodgers. The group were talent-spotted by singer and producer Stevie B in Florida, who helped shape their early sound. Their breakthrough came with the single "I Need You", which gained traction in European clubs after a US DJ brought their material overseas. In January 1988, "I Need You" entered the German charts at number three, followed by entries in Austria, Switzerland, and England. The accompanying album, The Best Belong Together, reached number 46 in Germany. Subsequent singles "Be Gentle" and "Anytime" also charted in Europe, peaking at numbers 12 and 21 in Germany. Despite initial success, the band's fourth single, "On And On (Can We Go On)", failed to make any significant commercial impact, leading to a hiatus.
BVSMP returned with albums Stronger Than Ever (1992) and Shake That Thang (1993), but failed to replicate their earlier success. The band also released several singles, including "Be Gentle", "On And On (Can We Go On)", "Hold Me", and "Dodo Monster". During the mid-1990s period, they continued to release notable singles such as "I'm In Love" and "Club Classics 21". However, the group's inability to maintain their initial momentum led to their disbandment in 1993. Post-split, the band saw a resurgence of interest with compilation albums The Best Of BVSMP (1998) and I Need You - The Very Best Of (2005).
