Biography
Godfather Don, born Rodney Chapman, is an American rapper and record producer from New York City who has been a prominent figure in the underground hip-hop scene since the early 1990s. He debuted with the album Hazardous (1991), earning recognition for his hard-hitting lyrical style and production. He later collaborated with Kool Keith as the duo Cenobites, releasing the Cenobites EP and LP, while also producing for artists including the Ultramagnetic MCs, Hostyle, Ayatollah, and Screwball. His second solo album, Diabolique (1998), further cemented his reputation as an influential underground artist. During the 2000s, Chapman increasingly focused on production before resurfacing with releases such as The Nineties Sessions (2007) and Donnie Brasco (2010). He also collaborated with French producer Parental on Osmosis (2020) and has continued releasing new material while pursuing jazz with The Open Mind.
