Biography

Burning Star Core is an American experimental music project founded in 1993 in Cincinnati, Ohio, by C. Spencer Yeh, and later moved to Brooklyn, New York. The project was driven by Yeh's violin compositions, blending musique concrète, ambient, drone, and psychedelic music. Initially releasing music on his own Drone Disco label via cassette and CDr, Burning Star Core gained wider distribution with the 2002 album A Brighter Summer Day. The album The Very Heart of the World (2005) received critical acclaim, with Zach Baron of Pitchfork Media highlighting Yeh's unique approach. Notable releases included Blood Lightning 2007 (2007), Operator Dead... Post Abandoned (2007), and Challenger (2008). Collaborations with artists such as Comets on Fire, Yellow Swans, and Prurient further expanded the project’s reach.
