Biography
Bruce Molsky is an American fiddler, banjo player, guitarist, and singer born in 1955 in New York City. He achieved professional recognition as a pioneer of old-time music of the Appalachian region. While studying engineering at Cornell University beginning in 1972, he became interested in old-time music and was later influenced by the fiddler Tommy Jarrell, whom he visited in North Carolina in 1976. His recording career began with the studio recording Take Me As I Am (1989), a collaboration with Bob Carlin. Molsky has released several recordings on the labels Compass, Rounder, and Tree Frog Music. His recording career includes the studio recordings Lost Boy (1996), Poor Man's Troubles (2000), and Contented Must Be (2004). He has performed as a member of the ensemble Fiddlers 4 alongside Darol Anger, Michael Doucet, and Rushad Eggleston. He contributed to the Andy Statman recording Old Brooklyn (2011) and the Mark Knopfler recording Tracker (2015). His discography includes the studio recordings Warring Cats (1993) and Soon Be Time (2006).
